Triarchy started our day. Although a strong design aesthetic was present and even an interesting start to the show. The show started with three models, one male and two females, walking down the runway from the opposite side in a strong sexual innuendo. The first thing I noticed, the models were so short. Then the other models walked on and all I could think was “how commercial”. It is not a bad thing to be commercial for that is the final goal of any brand, to sell. But these models could not even walk in heels properly. Although the show contained amazing clothes I can’t wait to get my hands on he models for sure took the attention away from them. The show was closed by the designer herself which was a great personal touch to the show and she actually walked well in the heels.

We then moved onto Rudsak where the androgynous, almost all black and fur clothing was retail heaven. The model line up included Amanda Lain and Tara Gill which means the collection was modelled well. Accept for the odd models in there that were imbalanced on the heels and leaned to one side the show was very well executed. The male models were suave and walked very well. Considering the modelled walked in wedges and flat boots has to do a lot with an almost perfect walk. All in all a great show.

Boyish young male models modelled the menswear line by Greta Constantine’s Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong. The collection was a very strong line that consisted of structured and loose pieces at the same time. It was a perfect clash between formal and informal. The men’s wear line felt very unisex at points especially with the combination of young models. The models walked the perfect awkward suave boyish walk that further backed up the line’s message of vulnerable vs. strong. Although some models walked very strong there were some that bopped their heads too much or had one arm limp. It did deter from the collection considering it was the first time the designer’s had showed it separately from Greta Constantine. Although there were minor flaws with the models it was still great presentation.

The last show for the night for us was Pink Tartan. The collection went to a 70s era with rider jackets and some serious bell on the pants. The make-up, styling and the clothing reminded me of a grown-up goth girl. The collection was strong in every way; this notion was a clear inspiration for the models’ walk as well. The model line-up included Amanda Laine, Tara Gill, and Naru plus more. The girls were strong and honed the qualities of the Pink Tartan girl. This collection felt different for Pink Tartan; there was hardly any colour accept for some jewel toned looks. This was a fresh new thing to see from Pink Tartan.

Today was one enticing day for everyone at Jessica Gregory. 2 of our students and my assistant/model walked in the Vawkkin show; the ready-to-wear line by Vawk. From the crowd all I could hear we’re cheers for the “real” women. The crowd it self came to a conclusion that the “real” women walked better than the models. Although the collections were amazing, it showed who had practiced their walks and who had not.
As for the rest of the shows the models were exceptional. Melissa Nepton had boots and thick heels if anything that helped their walk. Then the men’s wear show that changed everyone’s mind about the designer and proved his collection was Bustle. The male models in the show were mostly good. Even the model that last year had the worst walk better this year. Mostly everyone just loved the sexy male models trotting their stuff in the amazing cowboy inspired clothing. Stacey Mackenzie sure did liven up the show with her bright pink lips and short booty shorts.
For sure The best model line up was Joe Fresh. With models with recognizable faces and names everyone knew it was inevitable the walk was good. Model line up included Anais Poulion, Alana Zimmer, Tara Gill, Amanda Lain, and Kate King. The walk was of course amazing with all the international experience these girls have had. Although these were recognizable names the others were still just as good. All the girls in the show had exquisite walk considering they were bought in from Paris and New York. Joe Fresh was definitely the best show that had a good Canadian model line up. Models were Being Feeling and Walking confident.
The models today were just the prettiest things. Perfect for each show, they looked great in the clothing. On the other hand their walk was not so great. Some places I saw the neck sticking out too much or the chin was so down the model had chinS! The models in the Chloe comme Parris show looked scared and afraid of falling. One’s heels even fell off twice before she took them off during the third time and walked the show bare footed. Everyone clapped for her courage and that is BEING, FEELING and WAlKING confident.
Although that was very daring of the model it did make the collection look bad. The bad walking takes away from the collection and puts it on the model since all anyone can concentrate on is the bad walking.
So the lesson is to practice practice practice! So you can Be Feel Walk Confident while showing off the amazing clothes your wearing.
